Preview: Cougars Tangle with Rockets for Third Time this Season

The Prince George Cougars are back in action as they head to the Okanagan for the first time this season to take on the Kelowna Rockets at 7:00 pm. Tonight marks the third time the Cougars and Rockets have met with PG taking the first two contests on October 3rd and 4th.

The Cougars are coming off a thrilling 2-1 victory over the Swift Current Broncos on Wednesday, October 11th at the CN Centre. The win was backed by an incredible 37-save performance from Ty Young. "He won us the game, thats for sure," said GM & Head Coach Mark Lamb following the win "It it was a pretty even game when you break it all down." Prince George got their offence supplied by Koehn Ziemmer and Zac Funk in the win.

The Kelowna Rockets currently own a 2-3-1-0 record entering tonight's game against the Cougars. Kelowna sits in 2nd place in the BC Division and 7th in the Western Conference.

TWO-TIME TERIK:

For the second consecutive week, Terik Parascak has once again been named the WHL's Rookie of the Week. The 17-year-old rookie collected six points (4-2-6) in four games last week, highlighted by his two-goal performance in a come-from-behind 6-4 win over the Wenatchee Wild on Friday, October 6th. The Lethbridge, AB product continues to assert his dominance, leading the WHL in multiple categories, including goals (12), power-play goals (T-1st, 4), and short-handed goals (T-1st, 2). Furthermore, he tops all rookies in points (18), and goals (12), and boasts an impressive plus-minus rating of +11.

SEVENTH HEAVEN:

The Prince George Cougars were named to Week 2 of the CHL's Top 10 rankings. This is the first time Prince George has been named to the CHL's Top 10 since 2017 when they captured their first BC division crown in franchise history. Prince George leads the WHL standings with their 7-2 record.

COOKIN' CARLIN:

Cougars forward Carlin Dezainde has been red hot to kick off the 2023-24 regular season. The Calgary, AB product enters tonight's game with a nine-game point streak. Dezainde owns 13 points (4-9-13) in his first nine games of the 2023-2024 campaign.

CZECH IT OUT:

No skater in the Western Hockey League has more points than forward Ondrej Becher. In his second WHL season, the Ostrava, CZE product has dominated in his first eight games, owning 19 points (7-12-19). Becher was selected 16th overall by Prince George in the 2022 CHL Import Draft. In 71 WHL games in his career, Becher owns 57 points (23-24-57).

RECORD WATCH:

Hudson Thornton is one power-play goal shy of setting the franchise record for most power-play goals among defensemen. Thornton is currently tied with Ethan Samson and alumnus Ty Wishart with 19 power-play markers. Thornton has two goals in six games to kick off the 2023-2024 season. The Winnipeg, MB is on pace to break multiple records among Cougar defenceman in franchise history including All-Time points (currently at 135, the leader is Dan Hamhuis with 157), goals (currently 3rd all-time with 40, the leader is Dustin Byfuglien with 47), and assists (currently 4th all-time with 95, the leader is Dan Hamhuis with 123).
