Edmonton Oil Kings News Release
(Edmonton, AB) - The Edmonton Oil Kings are proud to announce that they will be participating in Operation Friendship Seniors Society's #Socktober campaign as they look help them reach their goal of collecting 10,000 pairs of new winter socks for seniors in need by the end of October.
The Oil Kings are calling on their fans to bring and donate new pairs of winter socks to their home games on October 15th (vs. Red Deer Rebels), 17th (vs. Red Deer Rebels) and 22nd (vs. Seattle Thunderbirds).
Every fan who donates will receive two tickets to the Oil Kings United Against Cancer game on Saturday October 28 vs. the Portland Winterhawks.
"The thought of braving an Edmonton winter without socks is a reality that no one should be faced with," said Oil Kings Director of Business Operations, Kevin Radomski. "Unfortunately, we have a growing number of people in our community with this reality. To be able to help support those in need is a mandate of the Edmonton Oil Kings and we know with the support of our great fans, together we can help make a difference."
Operation Friendship Seniors Society has been serving Edmonton's inner-city seniors since 1969 and has continued to see an increase in the need for their services over the last number of years. With winter looming in Northern Alberta, it is a critical time for OFSS as they will see a rise in requests for winter socks.
"A pair of socks represents warmth and hope," said Jimmy Morrison, Community Relations Manager, Operation Friendship Seniors Society. "It also shows that someone cares about them. Warm toes, Warm hearts."
