Moose Jaw Warriors News Release
After collecting a big four points on home ice last weekend, the Moose Jaw Warriors have now loaded up the bus for three games in five nights in Alberta.
The Warriors kick-off the trek with a big matchup against the Lethbridge Hurricanes on Wednesday night at the ENMAX Centre.
"It has to be one game at a time," Warriors head coach Mark O'Leary said. "Each game is separated by a day off in between and that helps to reset.
"We know Lethbridge is right behind us, Calgary is within striking distance as well and we have a bad taste in our mouth with the way things went in Edmonton last time."
The Warriors head into the road trip coming off two hard fought home wins against Brandon, winning 5-1 on Friday, and Medicine Hat, topping the Tigers 3-2 in overtime on Saturday.
Warriors forward Jagger Firkus said those were a key four points for the team.
"We knew going into the weekend that we wanted to get four points, we did that, so going forward very happy about that and looking forward to the road trip," he said.
"This week, we can't be losing these games, they big for our team, they're points that we need."
Last weekend saw the Warriors have moments of dominance mixed with some time battling to find their game.
The Warriors trailed 1-0 early in Friday's game against Brandon before scoring four goals in the third period to close out the lopsided victory.
On Saturday, the back-and-forth game ended with the Warriors scoring late to send the game to overtime and then winning it quickly in the extra frame.
Warriors forward Martin Rysavy said effort is key for Moose Jaw to find success.
"If we play a competitive game, in the battles, we'll be successful," he said. "We've got bring these things to the next game, we got to work and do our job first and then the skill takes over."
The Hurricanes sit in fifth place in the Eastern Conference, six points behind the Warriors, who hold down fourth place.
Firkus said the Warriors need to make sure they're dictating the pace throughout the road trip, starting in Lethbridge.
"We need to push the pace, against those teams the last couple of games, we've been slowing down to their pace, so push the pace, make them keep up with us and it will go well," he said.
The Warriors and Hurricanes face-off on Wednesday night at 8 p.m. CST. Tune into all the action on Country 100 and WHL Live, starting with the Pre-Game Show at 7:40 p.m.
