Toledo Walleye News Release

Walleye Notes

Two of three under the sun: Toledo had only won two games down in south Florida (2-6-2) prior to heading there this past week. Wednesday night Jeff Lerg had a 20 save first period helping the Walleye to a 3-2 win. Friday night the Walleye locked down the Everblades with perhaps the team's best defensive performance of the season on the way to a 3-0 win. Saturday night, Kyle Bonis and Zach Nastasiuk each scored in the third period but the Walleye couldn't pull off the sweep in a 4-3 loss.

Paterson locked in: With his second shutout of the season, goaltender Jake Paterson has been on his game over his last seven starts posting a record of 6-1-0. He has a 1.78 goals against average and a .934 save percentage in that span. Paterson currently ranks 7th among all ECHL goaltenders in goals against average at 2.19.

Penalty kill dominate : Since allowing three power play goals to the Colorado Eagles on February 17, Toledo's penalty kill has not allowed a power play goal in nine straight games, which is a Walleye record. The previous best for Toledo was six consecutive games set from February 18 through February 28, 2015. Over the nine games, the Walleye have stopped 25 consecutive power chances. On the season, Toledo penalty kill ranks 18th in the ECHL at 83.0%.

Getting an early lead: Toledo scored first in all three games this past week and has picked up the first goal in 32 of the 57 games played this year. When scoring first, the Walleye have a record of 25-5-2.

Closing in on the postseason: Toledo's magic number to clinch a spot in the 2016 Kelly Playoffs has dropped to just 6 heading into play this week. The Walleye can clinch the North Division for a second consecutive season with a combination of Walleye wins and Wheeling losses that adds up to seven.

Three in three weekend ahead for the Walleye: Toledo starts this weekend with a run to Wheeling on Friday night to take on the Nailers. The Walleye are 3-1-0 against the Nailers this year with all three wins coming on home ice. Toledo lost 6-2 in the lone game played at Wheeling this year. Toledo will return home on Saturday to host the Norfolk Admirals in the first and only meeting of the season. The Admirals are 9-18-2 on the road this season. The week comes to a close with the Kalamazoo Wings on Sunday. Toledo is 3-2-1 vs. the KWings on the season.

Zombies are here: The zombie apocalypse arrives at the Huntington Center on Saturday night. The infection will continue throughout the game sponsored by Buckeye Cablesystem. Sunday features a pregame Faith and Family party followed by a post-game skate sponsored by Applebee's.

Photo Opportunity: Mobile Meals - Tyler Sikura and Max Gaede will be helping Mobile Meals on Tuesday, March 8 from Noon to 2 p.m. The players will leave from Gordon Foods on Alexis Road to deliver meals.
