Toledo Walleye News Release

Walleye Notes

Goals against lead to a slow week: Toledo allowed five goals to the KWings in both games this past weekend losing 5-1 Friday night and then 5-2 Saturday in Kalamazoo. In Saturday's loss, the Walleye held a 2-1 lead early in the third period only to surrender four unanswered goals. This was the first time all season that the Walleye have allowed four or more goals in consecutive games.

A rare occurrence: Toledo has dropped back to back for only the third time this year. In each of the prior occasions the Walleye lost a third straight before embarking on a long unbeaten streak. The first came November 6 through November 13 but a win on November 14 at Manchester sparked a season-high 10 game unbeaten streak (7-0-3). The second losing skid was from December 30 through January 2, a win over Elmira on January 3 started a season-best six consecutive wins.

Walleye players near the top of the ECHL: Forwar d Shane Berschbach leads Toledo in scoring and is tied for seventh among all players with 41 points (15G, 26A) while A.J. Jenks is fourth in the league with 150 shots on goal. Goaltender Jeff Lerg is third in the league with 19 wins, 1.95 goals against average, and is second with a .932 save percentage. The 26 points (10G, 16A) puts Tyler Sikura tied for tenth among all first-year players in scoring and defenseman Joel Chouinard is tied for seventh among all ECHL defensemen in points with 25 (6G, 19A). Fifteen of Chouinard's points have come on the power play which is second most for players on defense.

Three in three weekend ahead for Walleye: Friday night in Brampton starts a back to back series with the Brampton Beast. The two teams then head to Toledo on Saturday night to round out the consecutive games. The Walleye have a record of 5-1-0 in the first six meetings this year with the Beast outscoring their neighbors to the north by a margin of 21-12. Sunday evening the weekend concludes with the Fort Wayne Komets at the Huntington Center. The last three meetings between the Komets and the Walleye have all been decided by one goal.
