February 8, 2016 - ECHL (ECHL)
Greenville Swamp Rabbits News Release
Greenville, SC - The Greenville Swamp Rabbits, proud ECHL affiliate of the New York Rangers and the AHL's Hartford Wolf Pack, today announced defenseman Sean Escobedo has been loaned to the AHL's Charlotte Checkers.
It's the first time the 25-year-old has earned a promotion to Charlotte, and the second time this season he has been called up to the American Hockey League, following a two-game stint with Hartford in December.
Escobedo is one of just three players to appear in at least 45 contests with the Swamp Rabbits this season. The third-year pro has earned 16 points (1g, 15a) and 34 penalty minutes during that span (45 games). Last season, he recorded 19 points (3g, 16a) in 61 games and led all Greenville defenseman with a +8 rating. He also earned two call-ups to the AHL with Hartford and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, where he finished the 2014-15 campaign. Escobedo amassed three points (1g, 2a) in four AHL contests.
A native of Bayside, New York, Escobedo spent the majority of his rookie campaign in 2013-14 with the ECHL's Stockton Thunder, producing 15 points (6g, 9a), 57 penalty minutes and a +2 rating in 50 games. He also made his AHL debut with the Bridgeport on November 16, 2013 and faced Hartford in a 4-1 setback.
Prior to turning pro, the 6'1, 205-pound defenseman played four seasons at Boston University from 2009-2013. He registered 33 points (6g, 27a) and 208 penalty minutes in 145 games.
