Walleye Strike Late and Defeat Beast

BRAMPTON, ONTARIO - Brampton Beast starting goaltender Marcus Hogberg turned in another great performance, making 37 saves, but the Toledo Walleye scored twice late in the game to edge the Beast by a score of 3-1 at the Powerade Centre on Sunday afternoon.
Chris Leveille scored the lone Beast goal as the Beast saw their franchise-record tying six-game winning streak snapped.
The first period didn't see any scoring but it wasn't for a lack of trying. Hogberg was making his fourth straight start and looked sharp in the first frame. The big Swede made some great saves and was able to smother some bouncing rebounds to keep the Walleye off the scoreboard.
At the other end of the ice, Walleye goaltender Pat Nagle was also up to the task and was able to keep the Beast scoreless. Heading into the first intermission, both goalies had recorded 11 saves.
The second period began and Brampton started it off with a bang courtesy of Chris Leveille. The play started with Brandon Marino sending the puck to Alex Foster behind the Walleye net. The veteran forward looked in front and sent a beautiful pass up to Leveille who ripped it into the back of the net at 6:31.
Toledo didn't go quietly and equalized the score in the last minute of play in the second period. Former Beast forward Connor Crisp redirected a shot through the pads of Hogberg to make it 1-1 heading to the third period.
Shots at the end of the second stood as 27-18 in favour of Toledo.
The third period was again evenly matched. Toledo was then able to strike late for a pair of goals that put them ahead 3-1.
The first was a wraparound from Kyle Bonis at the 17:09 mark and the third tally was an Erik Bradford rebound at 18:46. Despite a late push from Brampton, Nagle would hold firm and record the win for Toledo.
Notes: Molson Three Stars 3) Nagle (TOL) 2) Hogberg (BRA) 1) Bonis (TOL). Both clubs were perfect on the penalty kill throughout the contest. Brampton will welcome the Cincinnati Cyclones to the Powerade Centre on Friday, December 1st at 7:15 for the next home game.
