Sugar Land Space Cowboys News Release
SUGAR LAND, Texas - The Sugar Land Skeeters enjoyed their return to Constellation Field following a seven-game road trip with a 3-1 walk off win against the York Revolution on Saturday in front of the largest crowd this season of 7,163. The win snaps a three-game losing streak as Sugar Land improves to 10-12 while York drops to 8-13 on the season.
Chris Wallace went 3-for-5 at the dish and provided the walk-off home run to left in the bottom of the 11th. In his debut with the Skeeters, centerfielder Willy Taveras went 1-for-5 with a single in the 10th. Andrew Carpenter picked up his first win of the season with a scoreless 11th after surrendering a leadoff walk.
Matt Wright turned in a quality start for the Skeeters before handing the game off to the bullpen. The right-hander went 6.0 innings with one run on five hits and one walk while striking out four in the no-decision. In his last three starts, Wright has allowed just three runs over 15.0 innings.
York jumped out to an early 1-0 edge on the Skeeters in the top of the second. Andres Perez pulled a one-out double down the left field line before Johan Limonta poked a single back up the middle, off Wright's glove, driving in Perez.
The Skeeters pushed across the equalizer in the bottom of the fourth on a solo home run off the bat of Travis Scott. The home run snapped a 4-for-36 stretch by the backstop.
After Wright exited following the sixth inning, James Parr, Derrick Loop, Andrew Johnston, Adrian Martin, John Lujan and Carpenter combined for five shutout innings out of the bullpen. Relievers allowed five hits and one walk while striking out five in the victory.
Shortstop Beamer Weems drew a walk to lead off the bottom of the 11th, extending his on-base streak to 13 games. With one out, Wallace belted Shawn Teufel's full-count offering into the Wells Fargo Picnic Plaza in left, giving the Skeeters their first walk-off win of the 2015 campaign.
