May 16, 2015 - Atlantic League (AtL)
Lancaster Stormers News Release
Two Long Island Ducks errors in the bottom of the sixth inning opened the door.
The Barnstormers charged through.
With four runs in the sixth and three more in the seventh inning, the Lancaster Barnstormers rallied from a 4-0 deficit to defeat Long Island, 7-4, in front of 6,477 Saturday evening at Clipper Magazine Stadium.
Yusuke Kajimoto opened the sixth with a slow grounder to third baseman Cody Puckett. His low throw short hopped first baseman Jon Griffin who could not find the handle as Kajimoto reached safely. Chevy Clarke cued a grounder toward Griffin, and it squirted under his mitt for the second straight error. Blake Gailen roped a three-run homer down the right field line to cut the Ducks lead to one, and Brian Cavazos-Galvez kept the rally rolling with a bloop single to center, chasing starter Mickey Jannis.
Cavazos-Galvez broke for second against lefty Patrick Krider and beat Griffin's relay throw and scored the tying run one out later as Keith Castillo doubled into the right field corner.
Bruce Kern (0-1) walked Tyler Bortnick to open the seventh, and the Lancaster third baseman promptly stole second. Kajimoto fouled out, and Clarke replaced Bortnick at second after his sharp grounder was flagged by Kern and Bortnick was caught in a rundown. The Ducks opted to walk Gailen intentionally and match up Kern against Cavazos-Galvez. The Lancaster right fielder won the battle, spanking an RBI single into left. Gailen raced to third on Delta Cleary, Jr.'s throw home. Lance Zawadzki followed with a roller into right field off left-hander Tommy Organ for a 6-4 edge. Cavazos-Galvez scored the final run on a wild pitch.
Lew Ford drove in Long Island's first run with a grounder, and Reegie Corona blasted a three-run homer in the fifth for the 4-0 cushion.
Shunsuke Watanabe (1-1) pitched two scoreless innings of relief for the win. Nate Reed pitched a perfect eighth, and Chad Beck retired the side in order on ground balls in the ninth for his first save.
The series continues on Sunday afternoon at 1:00. Lancaster sends right-hander Bryan Woodall (0-2) to the hill against Long Island ace John Brownell (3-1). Yankee great Bobby Richardson will be on hand to celebrate the culminating event of Lancaster's Go Beyond community service initiative.
