Tony Calderon hit a walkoff homerun in the bottom of the ninth inning to lift the River City Rascals to a 5-4 win over the Evansville Otters in the finale of a three game series.
Jeff Goldbach put the Otters up 2-0 in the first inning with his 14th homerun, his fourth of the series. River City answered with three in the bottom half of the inning. Mike Madrid singled down the line to score a run and make it 2-1. A bases loaded walk tied the game and a sacrifice fly by Jon Wright made it 3-2, River City.
Evansville tied the game in the third on Goldbach's second homer of the night, his 15th of the season.
The game would remain 3-3 until the seventh when with runners on first and second, Kirk McConnell singled to bring home Jon Williams to give the Rascals a 4-3 lead. Evansville had runners on first and second with less than two outs in the seventh and eighth, but were unable to score against Aaron Ledbetter.
Trailing 4-3 heading into the top of the ninth with one out, Jason Mann came to the plate and hit a pinch homerun over the 46-foot high fence in right field to tie the game at 4-4.
With two outs and the bases empty in the bottom of the ninth, Calderon hit a 1-1 pitch over the left field fence to give the Rascals a 5-4 win.
Kyle Pawelczyk (0-1) took the loss for Evansville. Patrick Evers (2-3) won it for River City.
Evansville now travels Florence, KY for a three game series against the Freedom. Monday, the Otters will send Brian Kroll (4-4) to the mound. Game time is 6:05 p.m. and can be heard on 91.5, WUEV
