Windy City ThunderBolts News Release
Crestwood, IL - Chillicothe's Andrew Kasparek and Scott Lefler each homered with the bases loaded in the first 2 innings Sunday evening at Hawkinson Ford field. Justin Schuda's response grand slam wasn't enough to lift the Bolts to victory. Chillicothe made it a sweep with a 12-9 final.
In the 1st, Bolts starter Sam Jansen retired the first pair of batters. John Ramistella followed with a double, Noah Peery walked, Josh Ury was hit and Scott Lefler and Tim Baywal each were issued free passes. By then the score read 2-0 and the bases were full of Paints. Andrew Kasparek took a 1-0 pitch over the fence to ring up a 6-0 tally.
In the bottom of the frame, Justin Schuda answered with a 2-run shot of his own off of Chillicothe hurler Perry Cunningham. It was Schuda's team-leading 17th of 2005.
In the 2nd, Jansen again swatted the initial two batters down. The next three got on with a single and a pair of walks for Lefler who cracked the first pitch he saw to left for the 2nd grand slam of the contest and the 9th paint granny of the year.
A Nick Ewen 2-run blast in the 5th sliced into the lead and created a 10-4 game. Cunningham induced a ground-ball out from Scott Vetter, but a single each from Doug Schutt and Clemente Bonilla and a Ewen walk jammed the bags with Bolts. Schuda ripped a 2-1 pitch for his 4th hit, 2nd homer and 6th RBI. It was the 3rd grand slam of the matchup.
10-8 was as close as the Bolts would tail the Paints to. Chillicothe chiseled out a pair of unearned scores in the 8th and the Bolts achieved one of their own in the home half to reach the 12-9 final. Scott Vetter flied out to left in the 9th with the bases loaded again to terminate the game. Ryan Rafferty scratched out his 2nd save in the last 2 nights.
Schuda finished 4-for-5 for the evening. Schutt and Bonilla accumulated a trio of hits apiece. The Paints drew 9 walks in the meeting, one intentional.
Tomorrow morning, the ThunderBolts embark on their longest road swing of the season, a 9-game trip. The first set starts tomorrow at River City. Gametime is 7:05 PM.
