The Washington Wild Things (55-26), presented by Washington Federal Savings Bank, defeated the Rockford Riverhawks (41-37) by a score of 8-7 at Falconi Field Sunday night in front of a sellout crowd of 3,502.

It took four pitchers to overcome the Riverhawks, but the Wild Things were able capture their ninth consecutive victory.

The scoring began in the third inning when David Reaver hit a solo home run.

The Riverhawks answered in the fifth inning with an Olmo Rosario home run that drove in Matt Sauls. Then Aaron McEachran hit a home run.

In the sixth inning Rockford struck again. Todd Dulaney scored an unearned run on an error and Sauls singled to right field, driving in Jerome McCoy.

In the bottom of the sixth Washington answered when Mike Arbinger hit a home run, driving in Chris Carter. Then Andy Hudak hit a home run, driving in Pat O'Brien.

Washington finally took the lead in the seventh inning when Ryan McGraw singled, driving in O'Brien. In the eighth inning, the team added insurance runs (that they would eventually need) when Chris Sidick homered, driving in Robert Morgan. The score was 8-5.

Rockford tried to retaliate in the ninth inning when Ashley Farr and Rosario both scored unearned runs, but they fell short by one run.

J. D. Cockroft allowed five runs (three earned) in his 5.2 innings of work. He gave up five hits, walked two and struck out two. B.J. Borsa and Stephen Spragg combined for 2.1 innings; Borsa (2-4) got the win, and Jim Popp earned his 15th save of the season.

The Wild Things host the Chillicothe Paints Monday at Falconi Field. The Paints and the Wild Things are separated by eight games in the race for the East Division Crown. The first place Wild Things are on a nine game win streak and the Paints leave Windy City tonight with an 11 game win streak.

Monday is also Paw Patrol Night at Falconi Field. Members will receive their Wild Thing Wind Up Doll, courtesy of Troyer Farms and Alberts Meats. Kids can run the bases after the game.
