Walker Earns League Honors

July 1, 2009 - Northern League (NL)
Winnipeg Goldeyes News Release

Apparently being Northern League Pitcher of the Week is not enough for Ace Walker.

Thanks to an absolutely-amazing 30 days, Walker was named today as the Rawlings Northern League Pitcher of the Month for June.

Making five starts, Walker went 3-1 with a microscopic 0.77 earned run average, striking out 17 while allowing just six walks in 35 innings. Opponents, meanwhile, batted a mere .227 against him.

For the year, Walker is 5-1 with a league-low 1.53 ERA, holding opponents to a .225 average. He has struck out 33 while walking just nine in 53 innings. He has yet to surrender a home run and is one of just three pitchers in the league this year to have tossed a shutout. In games he has pitched, Winnipeg is 7-1, outscoring its opponents 47-21.

This is the second league award Walker has won this year, as he earned NL Pitcher of the Week for June 8-14. He was also named earlier this week to the Great Plains squad at the July 7 NL All-Star Game in Joliet.

Winnipeg wraps up a three-game set with Schaumburg this afternoon with a rare 4:00 start. Come join us in celebrating our country's birthday as the Goldeyes take the field wearing Team Canada jerseys and caps to commemorate that thrilling bronze medal win at the 1999 Pan-Am Games right here in Winnipeg

Great seats starting at just $5 are available at all Ticketmaster locations, including the ballpark box office, by calling 780-3333 or visiting ticketmaster.ca.
