T-Bones Win in Joliet

JOLIET, IL-The Kansas City T-Bones (21-20) scored four runs in the 4th inning to take a 4-1 lead over the Joliet JackHammers (15-29) en route to a 5-2 win before 1,582 fans at Silver Cross Field on Wednesday night.

Joliet scored a single run in the 3rd inning against Kansas City RHP Cody McAlister (4-0). CF Adam Klein (1-3) led off the inning with a double and moved to third base on a single by SS Kevin Rios (1-5). LF Brad Correll (1-4) lifted a sacrifice fly to left field to score Klein for a 1-0 Joliet lead.

In the 4th inning, C Craig Hurba (1-4) led off with a walk and scored on a two-run home run by LF Ryan Fox (1-4) to give Kansas City a 2-1 lead.

After 2B Neb Brown (0-4) lined out, SS Mark Minicozzi (1-2) walked and scored on a double by 3B Jacob Blackwood (2-4) for a 3-1 KC advantage. An RBI double by CF Aharon Eggleston (4-5) scored Blackwood to round out the scoring at 4-1.

The JackHammers got a run back in the 4th inning on an RBI double from C Phil Avlas (1-4). 1B Freddie Thon (1-3) led off the inning by grounding out. RF Wally Backman, Jr. (2-3) smacked a single and moved to second base on a steal. He went to third on a throwing error by T-Bones catcher Craig Hurba. Avlas followed with an RBI double to bring Joliet within two runs at 4-2.

Kansas City added a run of insurance in the 5th inning on a solo home run by C Craig Hurba (1-4) to round out the scoring at 5-2.

RHP Jason Novak (1-3) started the game and allowed four runs on six hits in four innings to suffer the loss. RHP Derek Barrows made his JackHammers debut by pitching three innings and allowing one run on one hit. RHP Drew Shetrone logged the last two innings, surrendered no runs on two hits.

The JackHammers and T-Bones finish their series on Thursday night at 7:05 p.m. It's the final game of the JackHammers four-game home stand. The JackHammers will host a special fireworks show after the game in honor of the 4th of July and another Thirst Quenching Thursday with $1.50 Beers at the Jammer's Backyard BBQ. The JackHammers will also giveaway a Budweiser Drivers Cap to the 1st 1,000 fans 21 and over. Kansas City sends RHP Dustin Bolton (2-2, 8.08) to the mound against RHP Rory Shortell (2-2, 3.63) for Joliet.
