Westchester Knicks News Release

UNIONDALE, NY - The Westchester Knicks, the official NBA G League affiliate of the New York Knicks, faced a 100-96 setback to the Long Island Nets at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum Thursday evening.

After being outscored by 10, 30-20, at the end of the first quarter, the Knicks (6-9) ramped up their play only to be edged by one in the second 25-24 but unable to fill in the deficit, trailing 55-44 at the intermission. MJ Walker (returning rights) had 10 points by the break to lead the Knicks while Garrison Brooks (affiliate) hailed a game-high 12 boards at this point. The Knicks shot just 36.2-percent from the field and 17.6-percent from distance paling to the Nets' (10-6) 55-percent from the floor and 30-percent clip from three.

In the third quarter, momentum favored Westchester. The Knicks got it down to single possessions sporadically through the third including the 58 second mark inside the window, 78-75. The Nets went on to nail a jumper with 18 seconds left to promote their lead back to five before the fourth quarter start, 80-75.

Long Island expanded its advantage back up double figures but a 21-11 run by Westchester, capped by a Walker triple, saw the visitors behind just one, 97-96, with 1:57 to go in the game. In waning time, the Knicks stopped the clock forcing the Nets to the line but empty possessions for Westchester negated any true response.

Walker ended the game with 26 points, five made treys and six rebounds. Following a 33-point performance Tuesday, DaQuan Jeffries (Two-Way) registered 24 points tonight along with four boards and one assist. Brooks grabbed 14 rebounds and scored eight points. James Akinjo (affiliate) had a seven-point 11-assist line and Nuni Omot (affiliate) backed 16 points off the bench.

David Duke Jr. scored 28 points on 50-percent for Long Island while contributing seven boards and three assists. Day'Ron Sharpe had 16 points and 12 boards. Kavion Pippen recorded 10 rebounds and Chris Chiozza finished with 12 points and eight dimes.

Westchester wraps up its back-to-back and final game before the 2022 NBA G League Winter Showcase tomorrow, December 16 at 7 PM ET against the Delaware Blue Coats at Total Mortgage Arena.
