Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release
LAKEWOOD, NJ - Coco Johnson hit a two-run walk-off home run in the bottom of the 10th inning as the BlueClaws fall to Greensboro 7-5 on Wednesday afternoon at NewBridge Bank Park.
The Grasshoppers (33-20/77-46) sweep a three-game series from Lakewood (19-34/46-76) and the loss drops the BlueClaws to 30-games under .500 for the first time in franchise history. The BlueClaws have lost five in a row and eight of their last nine games.
Johnson's home run, his third of the year, came off Frank Rivas and dropped the BlueClaws to 3-6 in extra innings this year. Lakewood had a chance in the top of the 10th to take the lead but Willians Astudillo was thrown out trying to score from second base on a fly ball to right center by second baseman Avery Romero to end the threat.
Willians Astudillo had four hits for the BlueClaws and extended his hitting streak to 12 games in the process. It was the first four-hit game of his career. Mitch Walding was 3-5 and Andrew Pullin went 2-5 for Lakewood.
The BlueClaws jumped to a 2-0 lead in the 2nd inning on an opposite-field home run by Mitch Walding. It was Walding's 6th home run of the season after he hit one in each of his first two professional seasons.
An error by Greensboro third baseman Rheinar Cordova put Lakewood up 3-0 in the 4th inning and Malquin Canelo, who had three hits last night, added an RBI single to make it 4-0 BlueClaws.
That lead, however, was short-lived. The first four batters in the bottom of the 4th had hits off Yacksel Rios, with an RBI double by Felix Munoz and a three-run home run by Kentrell Dewitt tying the score.
Rios went 5.2 innings for the BlueClaws and allowed four runs. Greensboro starter Jose Adames gave up four runs/two earned in five innings. Neither starter factored in the decision.
Lakewood took the lead back in the 8th when Zach Green, who doubled off Jose Arias to start the inning, scored on a grounder by Mitch Walding. Greensboro tied the game back in the bottom of the 8th off Aaron Baker, with a groundout by Coco Johnson bringing in Kentrell Dewitt to make it 5-5.
The BlueClaws head home and open a four-game series with Hagerstown on Thursday night. RHP Ranfi Casimiro throws for Lakewood against RHP Nick Pivetta in the opener at 7:05.
