Sacramento River Cats News Release

Salt Lake City, Utah. - Home runs by third baseman Jason Vosler and left fielder Willie Calhoun lifted the Sacramento River Cats (37-46) to a 6-5 win, their fourth straight over the Salt Lake Bees (37-46) on Saturday.

The win secured Sacramento its first four-game winning streak since the opening four games of the season. It also gave the River Cats their first series win in Salt Lake since July 15-18, 2019.

First baseman Jason Krizan dealt the game's first blow, lining a clutch two-out, two-run double to plate Calhoun and Vosler in the first inning.

After Salt Lake took a 4-3 lead on first baseman Jose Rojas' three-run shot, Vosler extended his hitting streak to six games with a game-tying homer. Since June 30, Vosler is 10-for-25 (.400) with seven runs, three home runs, eight RBIs, and a 1.283 OPS.

Calhoun's blast proved to be the difference. Tied at four in the seventh, Calhoun lined a 77.4 MPH changeup from righty César Valdez (5-4) 442 feet to center field for a two-run go-ahead shot, his seventh homer of the season (101.9 MPH exit velocity).

Right-hander Norwith Gudino (2-3) was perfect in relief, striking out two in 2.0 shutout innings. Fellow righty Kervin Castro picked up where Gudino left off, striking out one in a perfect seventh.

A home run by left fielder Jo Adell off righty Jeremy Walker made it 6-5 before righty Luis Ortiz entered for the ninth. With the tying run on third and winning run on first and two outs, Ortiz struck out Adell on a full count 96.6 MPH fastball to end the game.

Right-hander Raynel Espinal (5-3, 4.64) looks to make it a season-high five wins in a row with a victory on Sunday. He'll be opposed by lefty Jhonathan Diaz (3-1, 4.43) at 12:05 p.m. (PT) Listen to Johnny Doskow call the game online at rivercats.com or on the MiLB First Pitch app.

Additional Notes

Despite not leaving the yard, second baseman Isan Díaz remained an offensive catalyst, going 3-for-5 with two doubles, a run, and an RBI. In his last 15 games, the 26-year-old is 22-for-56 (.393) with 13 runs, five doubles, four home runs, 15 RBIs, and a 1.158 OPS.

Early runs and a season-high four walks led to right-hander Sean Hjelle exiting with four earned runs on five hits while striking out two in 4.0 innings.
