Von Schamann Leads Lookouts to a 2-0 Win over Jackson

April 4, 2014 - Southern League (SL1)
Chattanooga Lookouts News Release

Chattanooga Lookouts (1-1) starting pitcher Duke von Schamann (1-0) threw seven shutout innings to lead the team to a 2-0 win over the Jackson Generals (1-1) on the Lookouts' first Fireworks game of the season.

Von Schamann started off the night strong, recording a quick 1-2-3 first inning. After allowing a double to outfielder Jabari Blash, the righty settled into a rythm and recorded 13 straight outs. The 22-year old finished the night only allowing two hits in seven innings while striking out two batters. Von Schamann is now 1-1 with a 2.10 ERA and 19 strikeouts in five games (three starts) against the Jackson Generals in his career.

The Lookouts offense provided a cushion for von Schamann in the fourth inning when Scott Schebler doubled home Daniel Mayora and O'Koyea Dickson. Mayora was able to reach base for the first time when Ketel Marte comitted his first fielding error of the season. Dickson joined the Mayora on the bases when Jackson starting pitcher Stephen Landazuri (0-1) issued his only walk of the game.

Schebler's two-run double was the only runs the Lookouts would need as relievers Juan Gonzalez and Jarret Martin (S, 1) combined to throw two shutout innings to close out the game. Martin's shutout appearence in the ninth inning gave him his first save of the season.

Tomorrow, the Lookouts will try and carry their momentum into the third game of their five-game set against the Generals. Starting lefty Chris Reed takes the mound against fellow southpaw Cam Hobson. Fans who attend tomorrow's game will be treated to a spectacular show by the zany costumed characters, the ZOOperstars! Game time is set for 7:15 p.m.

Notes: Scott Schebler was named the Nutrition World Player of the Game for the first time this season. The outfielder now leads the team in RBIs with four...Jarret Martin earned his first save of the season on Friday and his first ever save at the Double-A level.
