BayBears Victorious over M-Braves 6-2 on Opening Night

PEARL, MS - Jake Lamb's first inning, solo homer in the top of the first provided instant offense, and RHP Chase Anderson tossed five scoreless innings as the BayBears defeated the Mississippi Braves 6-2 on Thursday night at Trustmark Park. The victory is Mobile's fifth Opening Day win in the last six years. They have now won eight straight over the M-Braves dating back to last year.
The BayBears wasted little time of Braves LHP Mike Minor (0-1), as Lamb rebounded after falling behind 0-2 to launch his first homerun of the year in the opposite direction over the left field wall. Jordan Parraz tripled on the next pitch from Minor and scored on a David Peralta RBI single. Jon Griffin capped the first inning scoring with an RBI double that plated Peralta. All three runs the BayBears scored in the first inning came with two outs.
Anderson (1-0) made his return to the mound in a BayBears uniform and retired 18 of the first 19 batters he faced. He would end up tossing six scoreless innings, while allowing just one hit, and striking out six.
Mobile extended the lead to 6-0, first scoring a run in the third when Peralta doubled to score Parraz from first, then Justin Greene added another run with an RBI single that drove Lars Davis home. The BayBears final run came in the eighth inning when Tom Belza walked with the bases loaded to score Peralta.
Mississippi got on the board in the bottom of the eighth, scoring an unearned run against RHP RJ Hively after a passed ball allowed Cedric Hunter to advance to third and Emerson Landoni grounded-out allowing Hunter to cross home plate. The M-Braves only other run came in the bottom of the ninth off of RHP Matt Stites. when Seth Loman scored from third on ground out to first off the bat of Robby Hefflinger. Stites sealed the BayBears victory with a strike out of Braeden Schlehuber to end the game.
The BayBears and Braves continue their series on Friday at 7 PM. LHP Andrew Chafin (0-0, 0.00) makes his first start of the year against RHP Jason Hursh (0-0, 0.00) for the M-Braves.
