Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp News Release
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Following an opening night loss, the Huntsville Stars got their revenge on the Jacksonville Suns Friday night, outlasting the Suns for a 5-3 victory.
Huntsville (1-1) would gain and lose a lead three separate times in Friday night's ballgame, as the Suns (1-1) and Stars would ping-pong runs back and forth as the night progressed.
Despite blowing the save in the eighth inning, Casey Medlen (1-0) would earn the win for Carlos Subero's club, with Steve Ames (0-1) taking the loss for the Suns.
The Suns seemingly had a counter for every offensive punch the Stars would throw.
Following an opposite field solo home run from Stars cleanup hitter Jason Rogers (HR, 1) in the top of the second, Ryan Fisher (HR, 1) countered with a solo shot of his own to bring the game level at 1-1 after two innings.
Then in the fourth, after Nick Ramirez brought in Rogers from second base, the Suns plated a tying run on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Danny Black to even things up at 2-2.
The Suns wouldn't have an immediate counter the third time, as Kentrail Davis brought in a run on a fielder's choice in the sixth to give the Stars the lead for the third different time in the game.
That 3-2 advantage in favor of Huntsville would hold through seven and a half innings until Brady Shoemaker (HR, 1) knotted up the score at 3-3 after uncorking a Casey Medlen offering over the center field wall with two outs in the eighth.
But Huntsville landed the final decisive blows in the ninth inning, as Greg Hopkins and Jason Rogers each drove in a run to make it a 5-3 advantage in favor of the visiting Stars.
David Goforth (SV, 1) locked down the save with a 1-2-3 ninth inning, giving the Stars their first win of the 2014 season.
Jacksonville looks to get back on track on Saturday night, as the Suns are set to throw out right-hander Angel Sanchez (0-0, 0.00) in game three of this five-game series. The Stars aim to counter with 2011 first round pick and former Texas Longhorn Taylor Jungmann (0-0, 0.00), with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m ET.
Saturday night at Bragan Field features a magnet schedule giveaway, a butterfly breaded shrimp dinner offer (thanks to SeaBest Seafood) and is Southpaw's birthday (courtesy of Community First Credit Union, FOX 30 and Lite 96.1).
Suns fans can listen in to Saturday night's game on the Suns Baseball Network, 94.1 WSOS-FM or through www.jaxsuns.com, MiLB.com or the Suns iPhone or Android app, beginning at 6:50 p.m. ET with the Memorial Hospital Suns Pregame show.
