Birmingham, AL - The Montgomery Biscuits overcame a late 4-2 deficit Friday night to defeat the Birmingham Barons 5-4 in front of 2,930 fans at Riverwalk Stadium.
The Barons jumped out to an early 4-0 lead thanks to a three-run third inning highlighted by an RBI double by Christian Marrero and run scoring singles by Kevan Smith and Jamie Pedroza.
However, the Biscuits fought back, scoring two runs in the bottom of the third against Barons starter Myles Jaye and took the lead for good withthree runs in the seventh. Richie Shaffer started the three-run rally with a solo home run against reliever Nestor Molina (0-1, 81.00). After a Riccio Torrez single, Luke Maile and Tyler Motter followed with RBI doubles to give the Biscuits a 5-4 advantage. Molina retired just one batter while allowingfour hits and three runs.
Jim Patterson, Matt Lollis (1-0, 0.00) and Santiago Garrido (S, 1) combined to hold the Barons to one hit over the final 4.0 innings as the Biscuits improved to 1-1 on the young season.
Micah Johnson and Keenyn Walker each finished 2-for-4 in the losingeffort and are hitting .500 and .429 respectively through two games.
Myles Jaye picked up the tough-luck no-decision despite allowing just two runs and four hits over 6.0 innings while striking out four.
The Barons will look to rebound tomorrow night as LHP Scott Snodgress makes his first start of the season for the Barons against RHP Jared Mortensen. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM CDT.
