
Vipers Turn Down the Jam

Rio Grande Valley Vipers News Release
The Rio Grande Valley Vipers (9-6) topped the Bakersfield Jam (8-9) 112-106 tonight at State Farm Arena.
Raphiael Putney led the Vipers with 24 points. Putney scored 20 of his 24 total points in the first half. Houston Rockets assignee Montrezl Harrell scored 21 points, 7 rebounds and 6 blocks. Harrell's 6 blocks mark a season-high. Will Cummings scored his first double-double of the season with 20 points and 10 assists, a season high in assists. Jaron Johnson added 18 points. Jarvis Threatt contributed 10 points, and Chris Walker added 4 points and 10 rebounds.
Xavier Munford led the Jam with 23 points and 10 assists. Renaldo Major and Askia Booker each scored 19 points. Deonte Burton tallied 13 points. Mac Koshwal and Derek Cooke, Jr. recorded 10 points apiece.
Bakersfield's only lead of the game occurred during the first quarter. The lead changed five times and the game tied six times throughout the quarter. With 4:01 on the clock, Putney made a three-pointer to put the Vipers on top 21-18. RGV never looked back and held the lead the remainder of the game.
At the end of the first quarter, RGV led 32-27. At the half, the Vipers were up 63-56.
The Jam were not able to make a comeback in the second half. RGV held a 89-80 lead at the end of the third quarter. Bakersfield outscored RGV 26-23 in the fourth quarter, but it was not enough to close their deficit.
