Bakersfield Jam News Release

MCALLEN, TX - The Bakersfield Jam (8-9) fell to the Rio Grande Valley Vipers (9-6) 112-106 Saturday night at the State Farm Arena.

The opening minutes of the first quarter saw five lead changes and six ties, making it a tight battle to start the game. Despite only shooting 37.5 percent from the field, compared to the Vipers' 52.0 percent, the Jam trailed by just five points (32-27) after one quarter of play. Rio Grande Valley extended their lead to as many as 14 points in the second quarter, and went into the half with a 63-56 lead.

Bakersfield trailed the entire second half, but fought back late in the game to get within distance. After trailing by 12 points in the fourth quarter, Xavier Munford's three-point play at the 1:04 mark of the fourth got the Jam within five points (109-104). Despite Bakersfield's strong effort down the stretch, their late rally would fall short.

Renaldo Major had a team-high 17 points to go along with two steals, while Munford finished with 14 points, eight assists and two steals. Askia Booker (12), Deonte Burton (11) and Mac Koshwal (10) also scored in double-figures.

The Vipers were led by Raphiael Putney (20 points, 5 rebounds, 3 blocks) and Houston Rockets assignee Montrezl Harrell (19 points, 5 blocks, 2 steals).

The Bakersfield Jam head over to Austin tomorrow to take on the Austin Spurs at 3:00 p.m. PT.
