Cleveland Charge News Release
The Canton Charge (5-10), presented by SecureData 365 and powered by the Cleveland Cavaliers, never trailed in a 105-90 victory over the Raptors 905 (5-11) in the first-ever meeting between the two teams.
Canton came out the gate scorching, beginning the game on a 19-0 run to take control early. The Charge forced 10 Raptors turnovers in the quarter and got out in transition for 10 fast break points to build their large advantage early. The hosts led 29-10 at the break, tying the franchise record for the least amount of points allowed in a single quarter set last season against Fort Wayne (February 9th).
The Charge maintained a double-digit lead throughout the rest of the half, thanks in part to Nick Minnerath's hot shooting second quarter. The forward netted 16 points on 6-of-6 shooting from the field off the bench as Canton led by as many as 21 en route to a 56-40 halftime advantage. The hosts were bolstered by an offense that hit 23-of-41 shots in the half (56%) and 30 points in the paint.
Canton never led by less than 11 the rest of the way en route to their second-largest margin of victory this season. The Charge finished with a season-high 30 assists on 44 field goals as a team, while they also set a season-best mark for blocks in swatting nine shots. Canton protected the basketball well by surrendering a season-low nine turnovers, conversely forcing a season-best 24 turnovers from the Raptors that resulted in 36 points.
Minnerath finished with 22 points on 9-of-10 shooting in 23 minutes for his fourth consecutive game scoring 20+ points off the bench for Canton. Quinn Cook scored 17 points and nabbed two steals in 29 minutes of work. Jorge Gutierrez added 13 points, six assists, and four steals in 26 minutes. Jon Horford's presence in the paint was felt with 16 rebounds and three blocks in 34 minutes. The Charge had all 11 of the team's steals among the starting five.
The Raptors 905 were led by Axel Toupane's 16 points and nine boards in 33 minutes. Ronald Roberts Jr. posted a double-double of 13 points and 11 rebounds with two blocks in 31 minutes. Shannon Scott added 15 points, nine rebounds, and five assists in 35 minutes.
