
Vipers Defeated by Tulsa 142-125

HIDALGO, Texas "" The Rio Grande Valley Vipers (24-10) fell 142-125 to the Tulsa 66ers (15-20) tonight at State Farm Arena. RGV connected on 24-of-52 three-point shots to tie their season-high of 24 three-point shots made in a game.
Houston Rockets assignee Robert Covington led the Vipers with a season-high 45 points, 11 rebounds and was 10-for-17 from three-point range. Also, assigned from the Rockets, Troy Daniels scored 21 points and connected on six three-point shots. Gary Talton added 18 points, and Kevin Parrom followed with 16 points.
Tulsa was led by Rodney Bartholomew with a double-double 24 points, 10 rebounds. Mario Little, Grant Jerrett and Mustafa Shakur each scored 22 points. Shakur also contributed 10 assists.
RGV started the game with the lead and was up 7-6 with 9:31 remaining in the first quarter. Then, Williams connected on a shot from behind the arc to steal a 9-7 lead for Tulsa. The 66ers controled the lead throughout the first quarter and held their largest first half lead 29-16 with 4:40 on the clock. Dario Hunt made a tip shot to send the Vipers on a 15-3 run that help RGV close its deficit to 32-31. At the end of the first quarter, Tulsa was on top 37-33.
B.J. Young made back-to-back layups with 7:37 remaining in the first half to steal a 47-45 lead for RGV. Wilkerson responded with a layup, but Covington followed with a three-pointer to keep RGV ahead 50-47. Tulsa fought back and was able to take the 59-55 lead on a dunk from Bartholomew. Talton connected on a buzzer-beater three-point shot to give RGV the 69-98 lead at halftime.
Both teams fought for control throughout the third quarter, trading the lead 11 times. At the end of the third, RGV trailed Tulsa 105-99.
Tulsa's largest lead of the night, 20 points, came during the fourth quarter. The 66ers were up by 20 points four times and won 142-125.
