RENO, NV, February 21, 2014 - The Reno Bighorns won 114-108 over the Maine Red Claws Friday night at the Reno Events Center. The Bighorns are now 18-13 this season.
The first quarter had seven lead changes as the Bighorns shot 54.2% from the field and Maine shot 55.0%. Starting for the first time this season for the Bighorns, Sundiata Gaines came out strong with 10 points in the first 12 minutes. Chris Babb scored 12 points for the Red Claws.
The second quarter, the Bighorns came out with a lot of energy and took over the game. Reno went on a 13-0 run (10:24-7:13) to gain the lead. The Bighorns' DeQuan Jones scored 10 points in the quarter and Mo Charlo added another 8. Reno ended the half on top, 62-50.
Maine rallied in the third quarter, outscoring the Bighorns 28-22, but they couldn't get ahead of Reno. Frank Gaines and Daniel Orton each contributed 6 points for Maine. At the end of the third quarter, Reno continued their lead 84-78. In the final 12 minutes of play, the Bighorns continued to lead giving them the victory.
Lead scorer for Reno was Sundiata Gaines with 24 points and 6 assists. Also in double figures for the Bighorns were: KC Rivers (24), Mo Charlo (21), DeQuan Jones (16). Mickell Gladness was also a huge contributor for the Bighorns with 11 points and 9 rebounds.
Maine's Frank Gaines had a game-high 26 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Chris Babb ended the night with 20 points and Zeke Marshall had 11. Chris Wright added 9 rebounds for the Red Claws.
