Erie, Pennsylvania - The Erie BayHawks hosted the Delaware 87ers at the Erie Insurance Arena tonight in front of a franchise record 6,450 fans. The Sevens took control of the game early and never looked back, downing the BayHawks by a final score of 135-113.
The two teams traded the lead seven times in the first five minutes before Delaware (11-26) built an eleven point advantage after the first quarter thanks to 14 points from Bo Spencer. The Sevens continued their offensive onslaught in the second quarter and held a 72-50 lead over the BayHawks (11-24) at halftime.
Spencer led all scorers with 28 points and seven assists in the first half while Solomon Jones paced Erie with 11 points and three rebounds.
Delaware continued their strong effort in the third quarter and pushed their lead to 30, their largest of the game, with 7:17 remaining in the third period. Thanks to 11 points in the frame from Jones, Erie was able to battle back and reduce the deficit to 16 after the third. Erie's bench bunch continued to work hard into the fourth quarter as Darren White deposited ten points in the frame and Erie managed to chop Delaware's lead to 13 midway through the frame. The Sevens finished strong as Tiny Gallon deposited 10 points in the final stanza and theydowned Erie by a final score of 135-113.
Delaware connected on 21 three point attempts in the game, marking the highest total given up by the BayHawks in team history.
Jones finished with a team high 22 points and 10 rebounds for the BayHawks and C.J. Leslie scored 21 points off the bench for Erie. White finished with 18 points and five rebounds and Terence Jennings scored 14 points for the BayHawks. Spencer tallied a game high 43 points and ten assists, including a 10-15 effort from behind the arc. Gallon pitched in with 21 points and nine rebounds and Vander Blue scored 21 for Delaware to go along with six assists.
Erie will host the Fort Wayne Mad Ants next Friday at home while Delaware will also return to action on Friday at home for a date with the Sioux Falls Skyforce.
