
Vipers Defeat Legends at Home

EDINBURG, Texas - Rio Grande Valley Vipers (11-9) defeated the Texas Legends (8-14) at home, 101-92. Gary Payton II capped off with a monster dunk to hit a new season-high in both points, 29, and rebounds, 15, adding five assists and six steals.
The Vipers tipped off the contest on a 10-0 run and went on to cap off an early 34-23 lead in the first quarter. Texas kept pace throughout the first half of the contest and stunned the Vipers late in the second quarter to claim the lead. The Legends went into the locker room boasting a 54-49 lead led by Ray Spalding and Keith Hornsby on offense, both tallying 10 points apiece.
Payton ll led the way for the Vipers with his 12 individual points and 10 total rebounds to secure the double-double by halftime. The bench for the Vipers offered up 15 points in the half.
Texas was able to maintain their lead as the third period came to an end by a slim margin, 73-70. The Legends shared the ball plenty throughout the contest, totaling 19 assists by the end of the third. Bruno Caboclo came into the picture offensively with his 14 points on the night and three assists.
The Vipers were able to recover during the final period of play and reclaimed the lead from Texas. Caboclo also had a big night for the RGV with 24 individual points and 11 rebounds, grabbing the double-double as the game closed out.
Texas saw four players reach the double-digit mark in points scored, Spalding led the way with 16, closely followed by Hornsby, Daryl Macon and Jameel Warney who tallied 14 apiece.
