
Vipers Cruise Past 66ers 118-105

HIDALGO, Texas -- Andrew Goudelock's 42 points, 9 assists led the Rio Grande Valley Vipers 118-105 over the Tulsa 66ers tonight at State Farm Arena. Tonight's win over Tulsa and Austin's loss to Sioux Falls clinched the NBA Development League Central Division for RGV.
Additionally, the Vipers were led by Glen Rice, Jr. with 21 points, and Terrence Jones added 17 points.
Tulsa's starters led the way for the 66ers. Daniel Orton recorded 25 points. Tony Taylor added 21 points. DeAndre Liggins contributed 18 points. Rasual Butler scored 16 points, followed by Andy Rautins with 15 points.
RGV built an early lead in the first quarter. A layup by Goudelock put the Vipers up 16-8 with 6:31 on the clock. Tulsa responded with a 10-0 run. Taylor tied the game at 16 points with a jump shot. Goudelock answered with a shot from behind the arc to put the Vipers up 19-16. At the end of the quarter, RGV held the 29-24 lead.
The Vipers controlled most of the second quarter. With 6:23 remaining Royce White sank two free throws to put RGV up 45-34. Tulsa fought their way back. Liggins sank a three-point shot and Orton followed with two free throws to inch within one point of the Vipers 51-50 with 2:57 remaining in the half. Goudelock responded with three consecutive three-pointers and a jump shot to send the Vipers into the half up 62-52.
Tulsa and RGV scored 28 points each in the third quarter. However, a free throw from Taylor put the 66ers within three points, 73-70 at the 6:23 mark. Goudelock responded with another three-point shot to help the Vipers build their lead 76-70. RGV led 90-80 at the end of the quarter.
The 66ers made another attempt to steal the lead midway through the fourth quarter. With 5:24 left on the clock, Ron Anderson made a layup to close the gap to 102-99. Rice, Jr. responded with a shot from behind the arc, 105-99. Liggins followed with a three-point shot, 105-102. Goudelock connected on a layup, 107-102 and the Vipers never looked back. RGV won 118-105.
The Vipers are back at home this weekend when the Sioux Falls Skyforce come to town for games March 29 and 30. Tipoff for both games is set for 7 p.m. Fans can listen to Vipers games live on Fox Sports 1700 and can watch games live on the NBA Development League Network on YouTube.
