Winnipeg Goldeyes News Release

WINNIPEG - Luis Villarreal's return to Winnipeg has been almost perfect. Today that was recognized, as he was named the American Association's Pointstreak Pitcher of the Month for June.

In six starts throughout June, Villarreal went an eye-popping 5-0 with a stellar 1.82 ERA. The only start he didn't win was his first one on June 1 when it was a predetermined start of two innings against the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks. Winnipeg won the game, leaving the team with a 6-0 record when Villarreal is the club's starting pitcher. Over 26.2 innings, the product of San Antonio, Tex. allowed just six earned runs. He went three consecutive starts without allowing an earned run from June 7-18 and allowed just one earned run in two other starts.

This is Villarreal's second stint with the Goldeyes. He started two games towards the end of the 2006 season and made two starts in the playoffs that year.

The Goldeyes are back on the field tomorrow when they begin a four-game series with the St. Paul Saints. Winnipeg trails St. Paul by just half a game in the North Division, as the halfway point of the American Association season approaches. Game time is 6 p.m.

Great seats for all Goldeyes games are available by visiting any Ticketmaster location, clicking on Ticketmaster.ca or by calling 1-855-GOLDEYE.
