Dayton Dragons News Release
Dayton, Ohio-David Vidal hit two home runs and drove in four runs to lead the Dayton Dragons to a 6-1 victory over the Fort Wayne TinCaps on Thursday night. The win was the Dragons ninth in their last 10 games and improved their second half record to 23-9. A crowd of 8,362 saw the game at Fifth Third Field.
Vidal belted a two-run home run in the first inning to give the Dragons an early 2-0 lead. In the third, Billy Hamilton singled, stole second, and scored on Ronald Torreyes' single to left to make it 3-0. Torreyes eventually scored on Jaren Matthews' single to right, and Vidal followed with another two-run home run to make it 6-0. The second homer was Vidal's 13th of the year.
Dragons starting pitcher Daniel Renken did not allow a run until Fort Wayne pushed across an unearned tally in the top of the sixth. Renken (6-8) left after five and two-thirds innings, allowing three hits and the one unearned run with one walk and four strikeouts. Over his last six starts, Renken has allowed a total of three earned runs.
Blaine Howell replaced Renken and worked two and one-third innings of scoreless relief. Drew Hayes pitched a perfect ninth inning to close out the Dragons win.
Dayton finished with 11 hits. Vidal was 3 for 4. Hamilton and Matthews each had two hits. Hamilton's stolen base was his 75th of the season.
The Dragons are 7-1 on their current nine-game homestand that concludes Friday at 7:00 p.m. against Fort Wayne at Fifth Third Field. Tanner Robles (3-7, 7.16) will start for Dayton.
