Vidal Leads Dragons to 6-1 Win over Fort Wayne

Dayton, Ohio-David Vidal hit two home runs and drove in four runs to lead the Dayton Dragons to a 6-1 victory over the Fort Wayne TinCaps on Thursday night. The win was the Dragons ninth in their last 10 games and improved their second half record to 23-9. A crowd of 8,362 saw the game at Fifth Third Field.

Vidal belted a two-run home run in the first inning to give the Dragons an early 2-0 lead. In the third, Billy Hamilton singled, stole second, and scored on Ronald Torreyes' single to left to make it 3-0. Torreyes eventually scored on Jaren Matthews' single to right, and Vidal followed with another two-run home run to make it 6-0. The second homer was Vidal's 13th of the year.

Dragons starting pitcher Daniel Renken did not allow a run until Fort Wayne pushed across an unearned tally in the top of the sixth. Renken (6-8) left after five and two-thirds innings, allowing three hits and the one unearned run with one walk and four strikeouts. Over his last six starts, Renken has allowed a total of three earned runs.

Blaine Howell replaced Renken and worked two and one-third innings of scoreless relief. Drew Hayes pitched a perfect ninth inning to close out the Dragons win.

Dayton finished with 11 hits. Vidal was 3 for 4. Hamilton and Matthews each had two hits. Hamilton's stolen base was his 75th of the season.

The Dragons are 7-1 on their current nine-game homestand that concludes Friday at 7:00 p.m. against Fort Wayne at Fifth Third Field. Tanner Robles (3-7, 7.16) will start for Dayton. The game will be televised on WHIO Digital Channel 7.2 (Time Warner Channels 23 and 372). Former Reds infielder and Dragons manager Todd Benzinger will provide color commentary.
