FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Rymer Liriano had two hits, but the TinCaps lost to the Dayton Dragons, 6-1, Thursday at Fifth Third Field.

The Fort Wayne bullpen put up a strong performance, going 5.2 shutout innings in relief of starting RHP Adys Portillo.

Dayton got on the board in the bottom of the first. Jaren Matthews smacked a two-out double and David Vidal followed with an opposite-field home run to put the Dragons ahead, 2-0.

In the third, Ronald Torreyes and Matthews roped back-to-back RBI singles. Vidal then cranked another two-run homer to make it a 6-0 Dayton lead. It was the third home run for Vidal against Portillo this season.

The TinCaps didn't score until the sixth. Chris Bisson drew a leadoff walk and Rico Noel reached on an error. Two batters later, Cory Spangenberg was picked off at first base but Bisson raced home to score while Spangenberg was in a rundown, cutting the deficit to 6-1.

The bullpen trio of RHPs Yefri Carvajal, Robert Lara and Stiven Osuna combined to keep the Dragons off the board in the latter stages of the game. Fort Wayne put runners in scoring position in the seventh but could not come up with the big hit. The TinCaps were held to just five hits in the game.

Portillo (2-10) didn't get out of the third inning and took the loss; Dayton RHP Daniel Renken (6- 8) won his fourth straight decision going 5.2 strong innings.

The TinCaps dipped to 17-15 in the half, 47-54 for the season. Dayton improved to 23-9 since the all-star break, 58-44 on the year.

The TinCaps and Dragons (Class-A Cincinnati Reds) finish the series Friday at 7:00 p.m. Fort Wayne RHP Zach Cates (3-6) gets the start against Dragons LHP Tanner Robles (3-7).
