Quad Cities River Bandits News Release

The Quad Cities River Bandits headed into the ninth inning trailing the Peoria Chiefs 1-0, but rallied and scored three runs in a 3-1 win in front of 4,290 people on Thursday at Modern Woodmen Park.

With Jonathan Rodriguez at the plate, pinch runner Kolten Wong scored on a wild pitch to tie the game at one. With Colin Walsh (1-for-4) on second, Jonathan Rodriguez (1-for-4) broke the tie with a towering two-run walk-off home run to give the Bandits the victory.

Chiefs starter Eric Jokisch went 6 2/3 scoreless innings, striking out seven batters while scattering four hits and allowing one walk. Jokisch held the Bandits scoreless for seven innings before Yohan Gonzalez (L, 4-4) came into the game in the eighth and allowed three runs on two hits while walking one.

Quad Cities pitching limited the Chiefs scoring to a single run but did allow 12 hits in the game. Bandit starter Seth Blair went five innings and allowed one run on eight hits with four walks. Justin Edwards (W, 2-1) came into the game in the eighth and pitched two scoreless innings to pick up the victory.

Offensively, the Bandits began the game with a leadoff double from Michael Swinson (1-for-3) but collected only five hits in the game after that, two coming in the ninth inning rally. Ronny Gil, (1-for-3) Nick Longmire (1-for-3) and Oscar Taveras (1-for-4) had the only other hits in the game.

The Bandits will look for the series sweep with the Peoria Chiefs on Friday. Right-hander Trevor Rosenthal (4-7, 3.29) will oppose righty Luis Lara (1-1, 6.00). First pitch is set for 7:00 p.m. at Modern Woodmen Park on a Lujack's Friday Fireworks with Birdzerk making an appearance to entertain an expected packed house.
