Victoria Salmon Kings News Release
Victoria, BC - The Vancouver Canucks returned Goaltender Rob McVicar to the Victoria Salmon Kings this afternoon, and he arrived in Boise, Idaho in time to make the start against the Steelheads. Idaho beat Victoria 5-2.
The Steelheads opened the scoring the previous two games of the series and followed suit tonight. Captain D'Arcy McConvey circled in the Salmon Kings zone and fired a wrist shot beating McVicar, for the Steelheads first powerplay goal in four games, at 8:58.
The teams returned after the first intermission and the Salmon Kings evened the score. Power forward Dallas Anderson reached out and tapped a long cross ice pass from Adam Huxley past Steelheads Goaltender Steve Silverthorn, to tie the game at one, just 2:27 into the second period.
Idaho jumped out to the 2-1 lead at 5:35, when Scott Burt took a shot from the right circle that beat McVicar. The lead did not last long though as Adam Taylor picked up a loose puck in the slot in front of Silverthorn, who made the first save, but Taylor put the rebound past the goalie to tie the game at two, less than three minutes later.
The see-saw battle continued when McConvey scored his second goal of the night and 10th of the season at 11:04, to restore the Steelheads one goal lead at 3-2, and the score stayed close until the third period.
The Steelheads scored two in the final frame, first Garett Bembridge netted his fifteenth of the season at 1:19, and then Greg Hornby notched his second in as many nights, at 12:04, to close the score sheet at 5-2 in favor of Idaho.
McVicar's record now moves to 1-1 after the 34 save loss and Silverthorn moves to 7-3-1, making 14 saves for the win. The Salmon Kings were shut down on their three chances with the man advantage while the Steelheads scored once on their two powerplay opportunities.
The Salmon Kings return to Victoria tomorrow and will have the next four days to practice before taking on the West Division leading Alaska Aces for a three game series starting on Friday December 16, 2005. The series will continue on Saturday December 17th and Monday December 19th.
