VICTORIA, BC, Canada - Leland Irving recorded 35 saves while Wes Goldie's league-leading 35th goal turned out to be the game-winnner in a 5-1 Victoria decision over Alaska before 3,838 Sunday at the Save-on-Foods Memorial Centre.

The Aces (24-23-4) lost the season series as well, 12 points to 11, despite finishing 5-5-1 against the Salmon Kings, who improved to 29-18-5 overall and an ECHL-best 22-7-1 at home. Alaska plays 14 of its next 17 games against the bottom three teams in the National Conference, beginning with next weekend's three-game series against Las Vegas. The Aces swept the Wranglers in a two-game set at Sullivan Arena in mid-January.

The series opens Friday and Saturday in Anchorage at 7:15 p.m., with Sunday's series finale scheduled for 5:05 p.m. and followed by a Fred Meyer post-game "Skate with the Aces." All three games will be broadcast live on KFQD 750 AM.

Alaska opened the scoring Sunday on the power play, as Nick Mazzolini scored his third goal in as many games and 19th of the year at 5:55. Three minutes later, Matt Siddall answered with a power play goal of his own, and the game remained tied 1-1 at the break. The Aces fought off a four-minute double minor early in the second period to keep the contest deadlocked, but Goldie snapped the tie in a five-on-three situation at 14:20, taking a centering pass from Filion and beating Alaska goalie Frank Doyle.

Doyle, who finished with 29 saves, had no chance after a loose puck in front caromed directly to Victoria's Randall Gelech, who tapped home his 15th of the year to push the margin to 3-1 at 3:44 of the final period. Doyle dropped a Goldie drive off the rush three minutes later, and Chad Painchaud swooped in to tuck home the rebound, increasing the gap to 4-1. Finally, with the Salmon Kings enjoying yet another power play (Victoria had 25 PP in the series; Alaska 11), Jimmy Sharrow rifled a one-timer from the left circle past Doyle, capping a three-goal flurry in a span of 4:20 that put the game away.
