Bakersfield Condors News Release

BAKERSFIELD, CALIF - Valentine's Day couldn't have treated the Bakersfield Condors (27-16-4-1, 59 points) any better, as their offense came alive en route to a 7-0 shutout of the Ontario Reign (18-25-3-4, 43pts), in front of 3,955 fans at Rabobank Arena. F Stephane Goulet picked up six points, including two goals and G Tyler Sims stopped all 26 Reign shots for a shutout in his Condors debut.

Sporting their snazzy Valentine's Day jerseys, the Condors went to work on Ontario early. F Matt Pope jammed home a loose puck in the crease for his first of two goals of the game, for a 1-0 Condors lead, just 45 seconds into the game. Bakersfield made it 2-0 when D Eric Regan wristed home a shot from the slot on a 5-on-3 power play, with 9:59 to play in the opening period. The Condors weren't done. RW Erick Lizon scored a highlight reel goal on a backhanded spin-o-rama for a 3-0 Condors advantage with 4:37 remaining in the first period. Bakersfield held a 17-7 shot advantage after 20 minutes of play.

The Condors added to their lead in the middle period. Goulet tucked home a short side goal on the power play at 9:14 of the second period for a 4-0 game. Sims had to come up big on a few in-close shots, turning aside 11 in the second period. The Condors still led in shots 25-18 after two periods.

Instead of sitting back in the final regulation period, the Condors pushed for more. The Condors made it 5-0 at 4:19 of the third period when Goulet scored on a breakaway off of a perfect feed from D Evan Stoflet. C Maxime Macenauer jammed in a rebound on the power play, 7:56 into the third period for a 6-0 advantage. Pope scored his second of the game and third in three games with the Condors this season with 2:16 left in the third period to close out the scoring.
