Vermont Lake Monsters News Release

FISHKILL, NY --- Pat Blair and Granden Goetzman both had RBI doubles in the fourth inning to give Hudson Valley a 3-1 lead and the Renegades went on to defeat the Vermont Lake Monsters 4-2 in the first of a three-game New York-Penn League series Tuesday night at Dutchess Stadium.

Vermont had taken 1-0 lead in the top of the third on a solo home run from B.J. Boyd, his fifth homer of the season for the Lake Monsters. Hudson Valley tied the game in the bottom of the inning with an unearned run off starter Jose Torres, who allowed three hits over three innings.

The Renegades scored the two runs in the fourth off reliever Kayvon Bahramzadeh (0-1), who gave up a leadoff single to Tyler Young before the Blair RBI double and Goetzman one-out RBI double. Vermont got a run back in the sixth on a one-out Boyd single and two-out RBI triple to right by Jaycob Brugman. Hudson Valley added an unearned run off Fernand Cruzado in the seventh.

Boyd was 3-for-4 with a pair of runs scored, while Brugman had two of the Lake Monsters other three hits in the contest (only other hit a Xavier Macklin infield single in ninth). Hudson Valley starter Aaron Griffin (3-0) allowed the two runs on four hits with no walks and six strikeouts over six innings for the win, while Derek Loera two hits over three scoreless innings for his third save of the season.

Vermont (22-21) will continue its six-game roadtrip Wednesday with the second game of the series at Hudson Valley on the final day of July. The Lake Monsters are 17-13 for the month, just the seventh time in the team's 20-year history with a winning record in July, and with a win on Wednesday would tie 1996 and 2007 for second-most wins in the month with 18 (went 19-11 in July of 1995).
