
Muckdogs Bounce CT Tigers

Norwich, CT - The Batavia Muckdogs (20-20) defeated the Connecticut Tigers (18-24) by a score of 7-2 Tuesday night at Dodd Stadium. The highlight of the game came in the fourth inning when SS Javier Lopez (2-4) ripped a two run home run over the left field wall to give the Muckdogs a 5-1 lead.
Muckdogs starter RHP Ryan Newell (3-2) picked up his third win of the season as he pitched five innings allowing two runs on four hits and stuck out 10 batters. Newell struck out the first five batters he faced. Newell allowed one hit through the first four innings.
The Tigers coming off of back to back shutouts struggled at the plate tonight as the team went 5-30. The Tigers were 1-6 with runners in scoring position while leaving seven men on base and struck out a combine 13 times at the plate. SS Curt Powell (2-4) contributed with a pair of hits as well as LF Kasey Coffman (2-3) who also had a run scored.
Muckdogs LF Austin Dean (1-4) contributed to the teams 7-2 victory with three RBI's that includes a two run double in the fourth inning that gave the Muckdogs a 3-0 lead. It was followed by the homerun by Lopez. Including the home run, Lopez also had three RBI's on the night that includes an RBI single in the sixth inning that gave Batavia a 7-2 lead.
The Tigers and Batavia Muckdogs play game two of their three-game series tomorrow night at Dodd Stadium at 7:05 p.m. In game two LHP Joe Flattery (1-0, 2.53) gets the start for the Tigers. The Connecticut Tigers are the Class-A affiliate of the Detroit Tigers and play in the New York-Penn League. The Tigers are in their 4th season at Dodd Stadium. Tickets are now on sale!
