Columbus Clippers News Release
The Columbus Clippers offense couldn't muster much against Toledo Mud Hens starter Drew VerHagen in a game three loss tonight at Huntington Park.
After taking games one and two of their four-game series, the Clippers were shut down by VerHagen, as he tossed six innings of two-hit baseball to set Toledo up for a 4-1 win.
The Mud Hens scored two in the first inning against Clippers starter Adam Wilk. The first run came when Dawel Lugo doubled in Jeimer Candelario, who was down on a rehab assignment from Detroit. Up 1-0, Jim Adduci then singled in Lugo to extend the early advantage to 2-0.
Edwin Espinal tacked on another run in the fourth inning when he blasted an Adam Wilk pitch well over the wall in left-center.
Trailing 3-0, the Clippers rallied in the bottom of the fourth inning when Lonnie Chisenhall, on his own rehab assignment, led off with a walk and was moved to third by a Yandy Diaz single. Yu Chang then lifted a sacrifice fly to score Chisenhall, bringing the Clippers within 3-1.
The Mud Hens pushed anther run across in the sixth inning against Wilk. Espinal launched a double high off the right-centerfield wall to score Aducci, making it 4-1.
Wilk's night would be done after the sixth. He gave up four runs (two earned) on six hits, while walking one and striking out four.
Though Toledo went to its own bullpen for the seventh and beyond, the Clippers could not break through for any more runs, falling 4-1.
The teams will play game four tomorrow morning at 11:05 at Huntington Park.
