Syracuse Mets News Release
SYRACUSE, NY - The Syracuse Chiefs will become the "Devices" on Thursday, May 31st, and people around the country have taken notice. From national media attention to merchandise sales, the "Devices" are bringing attention to Central New York.
Salute to the Brannock Device® Night, along with the unique name change, has caught the attention of national media, including Paul Lukas who is a columnist for ESPN.com and maintains a daily Uni Watch blog, Benjamin Hill who writes about the business and culture of Minor League Baseball for MiLB.com, and iHeartRadio station websites across the country, including in Georgia and North Carolina.
The unique name and merchandise has generated buzz around Central New York and around the nation. "Devices" merchandise has already been shipped to multiple states across the country, and there are still "Devices" adjustable caps and t-shirts available for sale in the Whistlestop Souvenir Store and online at syracusechiefs.milbstore.com. "Devices" fitted on-field caps will go on sale Thursday, May 31st.
Salute to the Brannock Device® Night, presented by SOS Plus, is a part of the Chiefs' Season of CNY. Charles F. Brannock invented the Brannock Device® and started the Brannock Device® Company in the 1920s, which is still located in Syracuse, NY today.
"We're thrilled with all of the attention that becoming the 'Devices' has brought to Central New York," said general manager Jason Smorol. "We're proud to help showcase everything Central New York has to offer to the rest of the world. That's what this year's Season of CNY is all about, and becoming the 'Devices' is another way to show what makes this area so special and unique."
The "Devices" specialty on-field jerseys that will be worn during the game on May 31st will be auctioned off to raise money for Operation Walk during and after the game. Operation Walk is a not-for-profit volunteer medical services organization that provides free surgical treatments for patients in developing countries and the United States.
Five lucky fans will have the opportunity to win a commemorative Chiefs Brannock Device® while at the game that evening. Plus, Salute to the Brannock Device® Night is a $1 Thursday.
