
Vander Esch Scores Overtime Winner, Mayhem Down Havoc

MACON, GA- Macon Mayhem forward Dylan Vander Esch scored his first two professional goals, including the overtime game-winning goal, on Saturday, as the Mayhem dropped the Huntsville Havoc 5-4 in overtime.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The first period was full of action, as there were five total goals and eight total penalties between the two teams. Caleb Cameron started the scoring with his 17th goal of the season, which was followed up by a power play goal from Dakota Klecha to take a two-goal lead. Huntsville answered quickly, however, as Alex Botten scored in the top corner on a two-on-one chance. Just minutes later, Huntsville's leading goal scorer Christian Powers scored a one-time goal on the power play to tie the game. The Mayhem grabbed the lead once again, as Dylan Vander Esch stole the puck from Huntsville's Stuart Stefan and slid the puck past the goaltender.
The second period only consisted of two goals for the two teams. Daniel Gentzler scored his first goal since February 3rd on the power play ?" assisted by Vander Esch and Trask - to retake the two-goal lead. A few minutes later, Huntsville forward Jack Ceglarski forced a turnover and scored past Charlie Finn to cut the lead in half.
Huntsville scored the lone goal in the third period to tie the game in the final minute and send the game to overtime. Vander Esch received a drop pass from Trask and fired it past the goaltender propel the Mayhem to victory in overtime.
NOTABLE STATS
Charlie Finn started his eighth game out of the last nine and stopped 18 of 22 shots on his way to earning his 15th win of the season.
Dylan Vander Esch scored two goals - including the overtime game-winning goal, an assist and three points in his second game with the Mayhem. He scored his first career professional goal, first career game-winning goal and recorded his first career multi-point game in the victory.
The Mayhem power play had scored on just five of their last 66 chances coming into the game, but they got back on track, as they scored on two of their seven man-advantage opportunities.
Caleb Cameron scored a goal for the second straight game and now has three goals and a four-game point streak over his last four games. Jake Trask recorded three assists and now has 34 assists to go along with 56 points.
COACH KERR'S COMMENTS
"We battled really hard tonight. We got out to the lead we wanted and let them get back in it, but even when they came back to tie it up both times, we continued to work and finished the job. We really needed that win, and I loved the way our guys battled to get it tonight."
