Vancouver Hands Chiefs 2-1 Loss

The Spokane Chiefs dropped a 2-1 decision to the Vancouver Giants in front of 4,011 fans at the Spokane Arena on Wednesday night. Rookie Liam Stewart's ninth of the year was the Chiefs' lone goal.

Neither team was able to find the back of the net in the first period, despite Spokane having to kill three penalties including 1:06 of a five-on-three disadvantage. Both teams struggled to get shots on goal with Spokane leading in the category by a margin of 8-5.

At the end of the first period a match-penalty for spearing was assessed to Vancouver's Marek Tvrdon. The Giants killed off all five minutes en route to finishing 3-3 on the penalty kill.

Liam Stewart got the scoring started for Spokane, scoring his ninth of the year at 5:38 of the second with assists going to Collin Valcourt and Tanner Mort.

The Giants would even the score up with just 58-seconds left in the second period as Cain Franson was able to get pick up a rebound and shoot it over Mac Engel to tie the game at one.

The third period continued to be a defensive battle, until the 9:45 mark when Jackson Houck was able to capitalize on a loose puck in front of the net. The goal proved to be the game winner.

The Chiefs outshot the Giants 33-22 and went 4-4 on the penalty kill.
