Brandon, MB.-- Not only will fans attending this Friday's game between the Wheat Kings and visiting Prince Albert Raiders see the opening game of a critical 2-game Western Hockey League weekend series, they will also have the opportunity to collect a complete set of this year's player cards.
The Wheat Kings, who enter the weekend sitting three points behind the seventh place Regina Pats and eight up on the Red Deer Rebels in the battle for the final two playoff berths in the WHL's Eastern Conference, in association withGiant Tiger have introduced plans to hold their24th annual Player Card Giveaway at Westman Communications Group Place.
The full color cards, produced byLeech Printingand made possible through the generous support ofFour Season Sales of Virden, Canadian Tire and theUnited Commercial Travellers, will feature all twenty-three Wheat Kings including captainMark Stone, Buffalo Sabres' prospectKevin Sundher and Calgary Flames' fifth round draft choiceMichael Ferland.
The cards will be distributed to the first 2,000 fans in attendance at Friday's game.
Each card will not only feature an action photo of each Wheat King player, it will include a complete player profile and statistical history of each. This year's cards will also feature the players in four different jerseys - their home whites, road blacks, their popular Third jerseys as well as the Vintage styles introduced this season.
The hockey club's first ever set of player cards was distributed to fans during the 1983-84 Western Hockey League campaign and featured such future NHL stars as goalkeeperRon Hextalland high scoring centerRay Ferraro.
Friday's game is the first of a 6-game home stand for the Wheat Kings, who have won five of their last six games including two of three on this week's trip through the Central Division. Following Saturday's game against the Raiders, the Wheat Kings will host Kootenay on Tuesday night, Swift Current and Regina next Friday and Saturday respectively, before facing off against the visiting Lethbridge Hurricanes on March 2nd.
