ValleyCats Win Fifth in a Row

TROY-The Tri-City ValleyCats battled back from a 2-0 defecit only to fall behind once again and battle back with a six run eight inning for an 8-4 win over the Lowell Spinners before 2, 137 at Joseph L. Bruno Stadium. The ValleyCats have now won five games in a row.

Tri-City played catch-up for the second time in the series. Lowell took an early 2-0 lead with single runs in the first and third inning. Dee Williams led off the game with a double against Evan Englebrook. He moved up to third base when Chris Turner singled. Englebrook unleashed a wild pitch that allowed the first run to score.

In the third inning, Lowell's run scoring again started with Williams. He walked and went to third on a Turner single. When John Otness grounded into a double play, Williams scored to make it 2-0.

The ValleyCats got two runs back in the fifth inning. Francisco Carballo was at first base thanks to an error made by Spinners second baseman Jason Ramos. Lou Santangelo hit a ground ball to the pitcher Ryan Schroyer. He threw to second to get the lead runner and Santangelo was on at first base. Edgar Babilonia singled and pushed Santangelo to second base.

Jonny Ash stepped up and smacked a triple. Santangelo and Babilonia scored and the game was tied 2-2.

Englebrook lasted four and two-thirds innings on the mound. Anthony DeWitt pitched a scoreless inning and a third. Casey Brown came into the game in the eighth inning and allowed a home run to Heriberto Guzman over the right-field wall.

The Spinners had a 3-2 lead but that lead would be short-lived.

Cooper Eddy came into the game in the bottom of the eight inning and gave up four runs. Jonny Ash started things off with a single. He went to second on a walk to James Cooper. Ben Zobrist dropped down a sacrifice bunt up the right-field line to move both runners into scoring position. Hunter Pence then lashed a two-run single. The ValleyCats took the lead at 4-3.

Tri-City tacked on four more runs against Eddy. The ValleyCats win the season series 13-2 against the Spinners. Casey Brown pitched two innings to get the win. Cooper Eddy took the loss for Lowell.

The ValleyCats and Jamestown Jammers meet for a three game series tomorrow night. Raymar Diaz gets the ball for the ValleyCats, game time is set for 7:00, and the action can be heard beginning at 6:40 on AM 1160 WABY and AM 900 WUAM Saratoga Springs as well as on the Internet at sportsjuice.com.
