FISHKILL, NY (August 23, 2004) - The Hudson Valley Renegades were victorious last night against the Williamsport Crosscutters 2-1 at Dutchess Stadium. The win moves the Renegades to 1 ½ games behind the Brooklyn Cyclones for the lead in the McNamara division of the New York- Penn League and 1/2 game behind the New Jersey Cardinals for the lead in the wild card standings.

The Renegades jumped out to a very early lead when leadoff hitter CF Fernando Perez took the first pitch of the game over the left field wall for a solo home run. The Renegades added to their lead in the 4th inning when 3B Pat Cottrell had a RBI single driving in RF Shaun Cumberland to give the 'Gades a 2-0 lead.

In the fifth, the Crosscutters were able to score an unearned run, but that was all they were able to get off starter Jarrad Lavergne (W, 2-2) who pitched 7 2/3 innings allowing six hits and striking out nine. Jose Delacruz (S, 6) earned the save pitching 1 1/3 innings of relief allowing one hit.

The Renegades head to Batavia tomorrow to start a crucial series against the Muckdogs before coming home to play a three game series against the New Jersey Cardinals, which will have playoff implications. After New Jersey the Renegades play the Lowell Spinners, then finish the season with a three game series against Brooklyn which could determine the winner of the division.
