This evening at Skylands Park in Augusta, New Jersey, the New Jersey Cardinals, (St. Louis Cardinals) (34-29) beat the Brooklyn Cyclones (New York Mets) (34-27) 4-2, and now trail the Cyclones by just 1 game for first place in the McNamara Division. Chris Della Rocco (2-2) picked up the win by going 6.1 innings, giving up 2 runs on 9 hits. The losing pitcher was Joe Williams (5-4), and Cory Doyne earned his 9th save of the year.
The Cardinals took an early lead, when Levi Webber singled to left and drove in Matt Shepherd in the 1st inning. They then added 2 more runs in the 2nd inning, when Tim Cantu plated Sean Dobson on a ground out, and Sam Herbert scored on an error. The Cyclones answered with 2 runs in the 5th inning, but the Cardinals did wait long to respond. Catcher Cody Palmer blasted his 3rd home run of the season to give the Cards a 4-2 lead. Mike Gross and Doyne combined for 2.2 innings of scoreless relief to preserve the victory.
The Cards travel to Lowell (Boston Red Sox) on Tuesday for a 3-game set against the Spinners and to Hudson Valley on Friday for the opener of a 3-game series with the Renegades. They return home to Skylands Park on Saturday for Ronetco Shop Rite Tony Torre Bobblehead Day and post-game Family Catch on the Field.
