Tri-City ValleyCats News Release
Fishkill, NY- The Tri-City ValleyCats beat the Hudson Valley Renegades 6-4 in a very poorly played defensive game between the two clubs. The ValleyCats and Renegades combined for seven errors, as Ryan McKeller picked up his third win of the year.
The defensive madness started in the third inning. James Cooper led off with a walk and then an Edgar Babilonia singled pushed Cooper to second base. Drew Sutton came up to the plate and dropped down a bunt. Renegades starter Brandon Mann came off the mound and threw the ball past the second baseman Josh Asanovich who was covering first base. Cooper and Babilonia scored on the error. Jonny Ash stepped up and smacked a single that scored Sutton. The 'Cats had a 3-0 lead after two and a half innings.
In the bottom of the inning, Hudson Valley scored two runs off McKeller. He would not give up any more walks on the outing. The right-hander, who leads the New York-Penn. League in walks, issued just three base on balls in 5 1/3 innings pitched.
Hunter Pence led off the sixth inning and that's when things got interesting. He belted a towering fly ball to center field that went over the glove of Fernando Perez. Pence went around second base and went to third base when Perez's throw to cutoff man Salvador Parades went wide. ValleyCats manager Gregg Langbehn waved Pence around from third base and he scored. The play was ruled a two-error play, one on the missed catch and another one on the wide throw.
Tri-City scored another run on an RBI groundout by Pence in the seventh inning and another run came across in the ninth due to a wild pitch.
The Rengades got a run back in the sixth inning when an error by third baseman Jonny Ash allowed Josh Asanovich to score. ValleyCats reliever Bo Edmiston allowed a run to score in the eighth inning to round out the scoring at 6-4.
The ValleyCats conclude their six game road trip tomorrow night against the Renegades. Garrett Murdy will get the start out of the bullpen for the 'Cats. Game time is set for 7:11 and it can be heard in the Capital Region on AM 1160 WABY Mechanicville and AM 900 WUAM Saratoga Springs as well as on the Internet at sportsjuice.com.
