Cats lose first game in Hudson Valley

FISHKILL, NY-The Hudson Valley Renegades beat the Tri-City ValleyCats 5-0 in the first game of a three game set at Dutchess County Stadium. Jarrod Lavigne pitched a complete game three hit shutout. The ValleyCats were only able to muster five baserunners against the Louisiana native. No Tri-City base runner got past second base.

For the second straight game, the ValleyCats committed three errors. In the third inning, the Renegades started to take advantage of the 'Cats errors. Fernando Perez walked against ValleyCats starter Raymar Diaz. Perez proceeded to steal second and third base. Then Josh Asanovich hit a ground ball that Jonny Ash misplayed. An error was put on the board and runners were at the corners for John Jaso. The Renegades first baseman lifted a sacrifice fly to center field that brought home Perez. Fernando Frias tripled and Asanovich crossed home plate for a 2-0 Renegades lead.

The lead extended to 3-0 when Frias crossed home plate due to a Chris Nowak RBI single.

Raymar Diaz would last through the sixth inning. After the third inning, Diaz pitched fairy well. He allowed just one hit each in the third and fourth innings. In the sixth inning, Matt Spring led off with a triple. He scored when a Salvador Paeredes knocked home a sacrifice fly.

The ValleyCats could not muster much against Lavergne. He faced just 30 batters in the complete game outing. Lavergne saw only four batters in the fourth, fifth, and eighth innings.

Rodrigo Escobar pitched the seventh and eighth innings, allowed just a run on the three hits. The ValleyCats and Renegades face off again tomorrow night in Fishkill. The game begins at 5:11 and the game can be heard beginning at 4:55 in the Albany area on AM 1160 WABY Mechanicville and AM 900 WUAM Saratoga Springs as well as on the Internet at sportsjuice.com.
