
USA Baseball Roster Has Ties to Carolinas

FORT MILL, S.C. - The preliminary roster for the Baseball Collegiate National Team that will play an exhibition game at Knights Stadium on July 16th at 7:15 PM against the Korean Collegiate National Team has been announced.
Amongst the current pool of 37 players are several student-athletes with ties to Carolinas. The roster features outfielder Jackie Bradley Jr. from the University of South Carolina, right-handed pitcher Greg Holt from the University of North Carolina, right-handed pitcher Anthony Meo from Coastal Carolina University and infielder Brad Miller from Clemson University.
Bradley Jr., who just completed his sophomore season at the University of South Carolina, was a key part of the Gamecocks run to a College World Series Championship and was named the College World Series Most Valuable Player. The native of Prince George, Virginia led the Gamecocks in hitting (.368), home runs (13), RBI (60), on-base percentage (.473) and slugging percentage (.587). In 2009 he was named to the Freshman All-American team by Baseball America and was named to the SEC All-Freshman Team.
Holt, who just completed his junior season at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, has been an important part of the Tar Heels bullpen the past three seasons. After being a four-time All-State player at West Forsyth High School, the Clemmons, North Carolina native has been used as both a pitcher and designated hitter for the Tar Heels. This past season he went a 3-4 with three saves and a 5.11 ERA (25 ER/44.0 IP) in 24 games (one start).
Meo, who just completed his sophomore season at Coastal Caroilina University, was named Third Team All-American by the American Baseball Coaches Associaiton. Meo went 13-2 this past season with a 2.61 ERA (28 ER/96.2 IP) en route to being named the Big South Conference Pitcher of the Year. His 13 wins led the Big South Conference.
Miller, who just completed his sophomore season at Clemson University, was the Tigers leading hitter this season. The shortstop started all 69 games for the Tigers and hit .357 (90-252) with eight home runs and 49 RBI. He also had 50 walks and a team high .458 on base percentage. He helped guide Clemson to their 12th appearance at the College World Series.

The game will be part of the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team's summer exhibition schedule before it participates in international competition. Team USA's major event this summer is the season-ending FISU World University Baseball Championships in Japan, July 29-Aug. 9.
