
G-Braves Lose Series Opener to Charlotte, 6-3

The Lead: The Charlotte Knights defeated the Gwinnett Braves 6-3 on Thursday night at Coolray Field. Gwinnett pitcher Todd Redmond dropped his first start since being named the International League Pitcher of the Week on Monday. Gwinnett (42-46) remains in third place in the International League South while Charlotte (44-45) sits in second place behind Durham.
It Was Over When: In the top of the 2nd inning, the G-Braves committed 3 errors, which is a season-high for errors in an inning and in a game (tied). The Knights scored 4 runs in the inning and Gwinnett was never able to match that total.
Braves Beat:
On the Mound: Starter Todd Redmond (8-8) was credited with the loss, allowing 6 R/ER on 8 hits in his 5 innings of work. Cristhian Martinez pitched 3 innings and allowed only 1 hit in a scoreless relief effort.
At the plate: Joe Thurston went 3-for-4 with an RBI. Freddie Freeman went 1-for-3 with an RBI.
The Opposition:
On the Mound: Starter Matt Zaleski (6-5) allowed 3 R (2 ER) on 5 hits in 6.0 IP.
At the plate: Fernando Cortez went 3-for-4 with 2 runs scored. Alejandro De Aza went 1-for-5 with 4 RBI.
On Deck: Gwinnett hosts Charlotte in game two of a four-game series tomorrow at 7:05 p.m. at Coolray Field. G-Braves RHP Ryne Reynoso (2-6, 4.76 ERA) is scheduled to face RHP Lucas Harrell (6-8, 4.39 ERA) of the Knights.
Etc: The Famous San Diego Chicken will perform at Coolray Field Friday night.
